During the holiday season, many places have incentives for buying gift cards. Usually they have a 'buy a $$$ GC, get a free ____'. Here is what we figured out last year: if you are planning on spending the $$ in that store/restaurant anyway, buy the gift card and pay with it to get the incentive for free! For example, I was eating at one of my favorite restaurants and the bill came to $30-something. I went up to the hostess stand and bought a $25 gift card, which got me an extra $5 card to be used in January. I then immediately used that $25 gc to pay for my meal... I would have been spending that money anyway.
Often times, things are more expensive in November and December. Even the 'sales' will be more expensive than they were two months prior. Take advantage of incentives during the holiday season!
